According to Wikipedia: ” Independence Day, also referred to as the Fourth of July or July Fourth, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence 241 years ago on July 4, 1776. The Continental Congress declared that the thirteen American colonies regarded themselves as a new nation, the United States of America, and were no longer part of the British Empire. As the holiday approached, I couldn’t help but look up the meaning and try to understand the true spirit of the holiday and means for celebration. I do this with every holiday. I want to know what we’re celebrating and why. This holiday has sparked something very similar to fireworks inside of me. I like to think that I’m having my own independence day. My own independence month actually. July, is the month of change for me. Lots of changes, lots of declaring of my own independence and needs.
So, as you are celebrating this holiday in your own way, think of your own independence. Think of the life you want and the life you would like to create for yourself and others around you! Take the time to embrace and appreciate where you are, where you’ve been, and where you’re going! I do this daily. Gratitude has gotten me further than anything else in life. So while I am extremely excited to see fireworks, I am so thrilled about my own independence. So today, as the light sparkles, there will be twinkles in my eye, for me.
Happy Independence Day.
Ps. I realize this is not the traditional post and doesn’t represent the reason for this holiday, which was intentional. It is just my own way of looking at this day and celebrating. You should celebrate and embrace in the way that works for you! I send love and peace to EVERYONE whose helped create, shape, and protect our country!
